..Sneke has been a personal influence since I was a punk wannabe gangster hanging out at Jefferson Park CC, he has been one of the most consistent graffiti artists in Seattle steadily cranking out wildstyles for almost 20 years now. His artwork was recently shown at 35th North Skate Shop on Capitol Hill in Seattle, WA (some of the images pilfered from Flickr are from this show), some of the pieces may still be available. Visit his website for contact information: www.snekeone.com, we anticipate an NYSea X Sneke collabo soon, look to the skies and keep your debit card handy Sneke stays busy! -Bryson-
..more flicks, more talk. These were all taken in NY on either 03.22 or 03.23, possibly 03.24. I enjoy taking photos in NY, sometimes I look specifically for graffiti names I recognize, other times I am more concerned with attempting professionalism and worrying about concepts like composition, contrast, lighting, etc. Either way here’s a completely random selection of a portion of a portion. Oh yeah, Happy Belated Birthday to myself. -Bryson-
I didn’t have enough space to include the one with the BBQ wings & Ghetto Punch. some other time maybe. I feel privileged to have had such an opportunity to visit a city with so much character.
I thank the people of NO from the bottom of my heart for the conversations I had with Tyrone and “Elmo” on the corner of the Walgreen’s on St. Claude. “Whatchu takin’ pictures of that graffiti for?”
To the woman who cried when I gave her my last Chesterfield.. “Karma’s gonna pay you back on that one honey, mmm-hmm, mmm-hmm..”
To Mr. Gosa for chopping it up with me, putting up with my awkward staring out the window at the BBQ joint and art-fag roller paintings.
To the woman at the Home Depot on Claiborne who never caught on to the dollar scam, then waved at me and wished me a happy day. I kid you not, A HAPPY DAY.
..here’s a small sampling of some photos I took of our time in New Orleans. I met a gentleman named Jason who, while taking pictures of evacuated homes, asked “what y’all doin’ out hea?”. To which I responded, “taking pictures of something to remember”.
Jason turns to me, doles out a long, almost menacing stare and says, “Come hea boy, I’ll show you something to remember”.. He then takes me into his mother’s ex-home and rather forlornedly mutters, “I don’t know if we gon fix it up or not.. watch out for them stairs, those two at the top don’t work so good”.
Jason took me next door where he and his family lived previously. “This is the kitchen, you can see what a mess got made ‘a that”. As I was leaving Jason implored me to visit the nearby restaurant Wing Snack. Which I did on my last day of NOLA sun. The Ghetto Punch was ghetto fabulous.
Photos to accompany this story will follow. Jason did give me something to remember, a kind-hearted stranger who was willing to open his boarded up doors to a complete nobody so they could feel what Katrina must have felt like 5 years ago now. Somehow that story still stirs up sorrow and compassion. Vacations are not supposed to be about profound life lessons, but this one felt good. -Bryson-
